Not only is Dr. David Wheeler's MPS GOLD 100 the most effective Glyconutrient and Aloe Vera product based on the high concentration of Galactomannan content, it is also the least expensive when it comes to cost and benefits. However, two factors are primary: 1) the most important Glyconutrient sugars are Mannose and Galactose extracted from Aloe Vera gel as Glactomannans that are representative of living gel from the plant and 2) the degree of clarity when it comes to the labeling and presentation of any given Glyconutrient product.
When it comes to cost effectiveness, the pertinent factors involve product cost and daily dosage. The maximum dosage for MPS GOLD 100 is only two teaspoons a day and the minimum dose for health maintenance is one quarter to half a teaspoon a day. Based on information presented on many different Glyconutrient product websites, the dosage for Glyconutrient products other than MPS GOLD 100 varies from six to twenty teaspoons a day. MPS GOLD 3X is a companion product taken with MPS GOLD 100 to boost the immune system response.

The following product listings have not been arranged in any specific order to provide evaluations of how effective they are. It is up to both doctors and the general public to gather meaningful information about products and then make their own purchase decisions.
MPS GOLD™ 100 is the only Glyconutrient product that contains a high concentration of broad molecular weight range Galactomannans from organic Aloe Vera gel, delivering 500 mg of Galactomannans per level measuring teaspoon of loose powder. MPS GOLD 100 has been available since 1995 (longer than any other Glyconutrient or Aloe Vera based product), with doctors worldwide recommending this product to their patients. There is no acceptance in medicine or biological sciences for the "eight essential sugars" that is promoted by many of the companies that sell Glyconutrient products with a lower concentration of Galactomannans (there are obviously eight essential amino acids, which is used as a play on words for eight essential sugar advertising). Only MPS GOLD 100 insures the highest level of health response based on the Glyconutrient sugars it contains. The maximum dose for most people to achieve a strong therapeutic effect is two teaspoons a day and half a teaspoon a day for health maintenance. This will allow the largest bottle of MPS GOLD 100 (contains 122 grams of loose powder) to last one month for the highest therapeutic effect and four months for health maintenance. MPS GOLD products are unique and with no attempt to copy any other Glyconutrient formula.
Ambrotose® from Mannatech, Inc. contains Aloe Vera Galactomannans with apparently no published molecular weight assays to validate whether or not it is complete in terms of health properties. In addition, Ambrotose contains several types of sugar molecules from different plant sources, which causes significant dilution of Galactomannans from Aloe Vera and therefore decreases the health benefits based on the essential role Galactomannans play in immune system health and over all cell to cell communication. Mannatech distributors often recommend much higher doses than two teaspoons a day for a strong therapeutic effect as well as including other products from Mannatech that can substantially increase cost. The range of dosage depends on what specific Ambrotose product is being used, but the dosage is often significantly higher than two teaspoons a day when trying to create a therapeutic effect (the highest therapeutic dose for Dr. David Wheeler's MPS GOLD 100 is two tsps a day). If higher dosage levels are required for Ambrotose, it may also apply to some of the other Glyconutrient products that have copied the Ambrotose formula to varying degrees.
Nutratose® from MicroNutra Health™ does not list on their website the ingredients from which its plant sugars are derived, which makes it impossible to know if there is any Galactomannans from Aloe Vera in this product. Even if there are Aloe Vera Galactomannans in Nutratose, a molecular weight assay would be required to validate the most important Glyconutrient sugar for health. Taking a product without knowing the ingredients is not advisable. The manufacturer of Nutratose has been sued by Mannatech, Inc. for the same reason that the manufacturer of Glycomannan has been sued in Federal Court (referenced below): alleged patent infringement. MicroNutra Health and associated companies gained a stay on proceedings based on the outcome of the Glycomannan case, which seems to be in its final stages. This could possibly spell the end of the Nutratose product based on court decisions made about Glycomannan as a patent infringing copy of Mannatech's Ambrotose. A product comparison website that is owned and or controlled by Micro Nutra Health and or associated companies is listed and linked from their primary website. People are given the false impression that information presented on the product comparison website are totally independent of this company.
Glycomannan™ from Glycobiotics International, Inc. contains more than eight ingredients, which highly dilutes Galactomannans from Aloe Vera. Galactomannans from Aloe Vera are absolutely essential to take in high doses support the immune system and overall cell to cell communication, which is lacking in Glycomannan. Based on the essential role that Galactomannans play for health, it is questionable as to whether or not Glycomannan can offer enough for health restoration and maintenance. The Glycomannan website and ordering of product is in a "maintenance mode" after court decisions went in favor of Mannatech, Inc based on a patent infringement federal lawsuit in Texas, USA. A recording is heard when calling Glycobiotics by telephone that they have been ordered by the Judge in the Federal Lawsuit case to stop selling Glycomannan. A product comparison website presented as independent of company ownership still needs to be verified in terms of independent product review.
Glyco Balance™ from Micro Health Solutions lists the source of Galactomannans coming from whole leaf Aloe Vera. Fenugreek powder is included in Glyco Balance as an additional source for Mannose and Galactose. It would be great to see more information from this company on the efficacy of Mannose and Galactose from a plant source other than Aloe Vera gel. Whole leaf Aloe Vera powder extracts contain high levels of mineral salts and other ingredients. The difference between Aloe Vera gel extracts and whole leaf Aloe Vera extracts comes down to a lower concentration of Aloe Vera Galactomannans in the latter. From the information presented on the company website, it is unknown as to the status of Aloe Vera Galactomannans in Glyco Balance in terms of whether or not they are broad range molecular weights or the concentration of the Aloe Vera component in relationship to the other ingredients.
The Downward Trend with Newer Glyconutrient Products just coming out in 2007 is creating confusion for both doctors and the general public. More and more products claiming to contain Glyconutrients are becoming available in the marketplace. However, from looking closely at many of these products it is clear that they are not legitimate and contain plant extracts that will supply no meaningful support to the immune system and overall cell to cell communication. The ultimate key is to determine whether or not these products contain Galactomannans from Aloe Vera gel and if molecular weight assays are available to verify their health benefits. Also, the greater the concentration of Galactomannans from Aloe Vera gel, the greater the health benefits will be over time. A few of these newer, highly questionable products are:
a) Evenbetternow™ from Evenbettternow, LLC contains whole leaf Aloe Vera extract at unknown concentrations in combination with other plant extracts and the need for flavoring for taste. The much lower level of Galactomannans from Aloe Vera in whole leaf has already been addressed. The product website does not reveal the concentration of ingredients, which further causes product confusion. b) From Glyco Coop the website information from about their Glyconutrient product is impossible to decipher, other than it contains the famous coffee berry as a cheap alternative to other plant extracts, including Aloe Vera gel. c) GlycoBerry-8™ from Now Foods that in no way is representative of the original intent of Glyconutrient products to provide immune system and cell to cell communication support based on the inclusion of Mannose and Galactose from Aloe Vera gel and appears to be based solely on of all things the coffee plant. d) GlySynergy™ from Global Sweet does not provide a meaningful breakdown of ingredients by weight and does not verify the quality of their Aloe Vera content as whole leaf or from the gel as well as not verifying its molecular weight ranges. e) Glycoplex from the Glyconutrient Shop lists the ingredients, with no correlation with well established formulas for glyconutrient products, contains no Aloe Vera Galactomannans and even contains lecithin which is reactive with many people because of soy. f) Glyconutrient Complex is a combination of the coffee plant berry and whole leaf aloe vera powder, with the coffee berry is not a legitimate source of glyconutrients based on clinical studies and whole leaf aloe vera powder contains Galactomannans that are of small molecular weight and therefore with very little healing benefits. Establish health security and take Dr. Wheeler's MPS GOLD products that more doctors use with their patients than any other Glyconutrient product!

In terms of other products and their quality, Dr. David Wheeler makes the following statement:
“Based on all available information provided by companies that sell other Glyconutrient products, some are better than others. In my professional opinion, MPS GOLD 100 is the best Glyconutrient product you can take bar none and my conclusions are based on well established scientific facts. The majority of real independent research involves Galactomannans from Aloe Vera gel and not the many other plant sugar molecules.
Compared to all of the other Glyconutrient products with sugars from many different plant sources, loose powder MPS GOLD 100 contains a much higher concentration of Mannose and Galactose extracted from Aloe Vera gel as broad range molecular weight Galactomannans. This will make a significant difference in terms of: 1) supporting the immune system, 2) overall cell to cell communication and 3) increase in stem cell growth (still somewhat theoretical).
Ambrotose and Glycomannan are known to contain a broad range molecular weight Galactomannan powder, but the amount is much lower than found in MPS GOLD 100. This means that the health benefits associated with Mannose and Galactose as extracted from Aloe Vera gel as broad range Galactomannans are lowered proportionally based on their concentrations.
Ambrotose and Glycomannan are good Glyconutrient products compared to the many that are available. The scientific experts that have developed Ambrotose and other products for Mannatech are of the highest caliber. I have the highest level of respect for Mannatech innovations, even though I am of the opinion that my products MPS GOLD 100 and MPS GOLD 3X are superior based on their Galactomannan focus. Glycomannan is similar to Ambrotose and also formulated with great care and consideration for its ingredients
It must also be noted that the manufacturer of Glycomannan has been sued by Mannatech, Inc. for patent infringement, with Glycomannan apparently not available for sale to the public (the Glycomannan website has been down for a number of days in a "maintenance mode"). The issue of patent infringement may affect several knock off companies in the United States and other countries -- if Mannatech pursues a similar legal approach. However, patent infringement has no baring when it comes to the Galactomannan derived MPS GOLD products that have been available since 1995, which is based on the fact that no attempt has been made to copy Ambrotose or any other product from Mannatech. MPS GOLD is the same unique product since it was first made available in 1995.
Glyco Balance contains whole leaf Aloe Vera powder, which is problematic in terms of the concentration and stability of Aloe Vera Galactomannans. It is a simple and unavoidable fact that the concentration of Galactomannans found in whole leaf Aloe Vera gel is less than found in Aloe Vera gel extracts. This is because Galactomannans are predominantly found in Aloe Vera gel and not the whole leaf, which also contains fiber, mineral salts and enzymes. As a doctor I also prefer knowing the concentration of all the ingredients in any natural supplement and this information is not available on the Glyco Balance website. On a positive note, I do appreciate that the botanical sources for Glyco Balance are listed on the company website. However -- as I just indicated -- it might be better to provide more detailed information about the ingredients, including relative concentrations by weight.
With Nutratose, from reading the website I cannot determine which plant sources are used for its Glyconutrient sugars. It doesn’t appear to contain any Aloe Vera Galactomannans at all, or if it does I cannot find any information online to verify plant sources. Therefore, this product receives my lowest score when it comes to health benefits. Mannatech has already sued the manufacturer of Nutratose for patent infringement and with the finalization of the Glycomannan lawsuit it is most likely that the case against Nutratose will result in the same patent infringement outcome.
Many of the newer and cheaper products that just came out in 2007 claim to contain Glyconutrients but are basically worthless. It is unfortunate that so many companies want to jump on the band wagon of Glyconutrients but are selling products that are no better than table sugar. A number of newer products are using the coffee berry as a glyconutrient source: why not just drink a cup of coffee? The buyer should not purchase a Glyconutrient product based solely on the price per bottle. The final analysis on cost is determined by how product you need to take. With some of the newer and cheaper products, you could take an entire bottle a day and there would be no health benefits at all. ”
Without changing what has been presented on this page about other products and the battle Mannatech, Inc. is waging against other companies for patent infringement, it is important to make sure the reader understands what has taken place over the past few years concerning this issue.
On March 17, 2010 Mannatech, Inc. released information on the internet about their lawsuit against seven additional companies for patent infringement. Since 2008 Mannatech prevailed in their patent infringement lawsuits against three companies, which includes the manufacturers of Glycomannan® and Nutratose®. These lawsuits, in my opinion, further strengthens Mannatech’s patent that involves the mixing of various plant extract powders together in their formulation of Ambrotose® and in other products.
Legal action was almost certain against all these companies for copying Mannatech’s patented formula. Eventually, Dr. Wheeler’s MPS GOLD® 100, solely based on Galactomannans extracted from Aloe Vera gel as a loose powder, may be one of the few alternatives to Mannatech’s Glyconutrient product Ambrotose®. The reason why Dr. Wheeler’s product MPS GOLD® 100 and MPS GOLD® 3X are not at risk for patent violation is that his product doesn’t copy the formulas patented by Mannatech. MPS GOLD products are based Galactomannan extracts from Aloe Vera gel and not a mix of different plant powders and their various, specific sugar molecules.
Dr Wheeler’s opinion remains the same: “After Mannatech initially came out with their multi sugar formula (Ambrotose®, based on mixing together various plant extracts, I quickly came to the conclusion that it seemed like a high quality formula but that MPS GOLD® 100 and MPS GOLD® 3X are better. I still am of the opinion that Galactomannans from Aloe Vera are the only essential complex carbohydrates necessary to support the immune system, over all cell to cell communication and other key biochemical processes. I continue to encourage people to try both MPS GOLD® and Ambrotose® and continue taking whichever product provides the best health experience.”
